About Mayo Farm, Shaftesbury and Dorset

Mayo Farm is a small holding situated in an elevated position on the outskirts of the Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury. The small family run campsite and holiday accommodation enjoy uninterrupted views across to Melbury Hill and the Blackmore Vale whilst still being within walking distance of the town centre.

Shaftesbury is a thriving historic town with Saxon roots and breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside. In spite of changes in farming practices Shaftesbury has continued to play an important role in promoting food produced on local farms, mills, orchards and breweries by holding a regular Farmer’s Market and hosting regular food events throughout the year.

Shaftesbury is also ideally situated for exploring the local area and is within easy reach of the coast.

Our site is child friendly and there is plenty of room to explore, ride bikes, and make dens. There is a recently built fort to battle over and hide in, and rope swings to challenge the more intrepid climber. There is also a more formal play area with trampoline and other outdoor play facilities, and an area set aside for those who like to cook over a bonfire.

New arrivals at Mayo Farm are Barney and Moses two donkeys fostered from the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary. Barney and Moses are usually ready for a chat and young visitors often help with the daily grooming and walk around the farm. We also take care of two visiting pigs, Betsy and Agnes and a small flock of sheep. We have our own chickens and geese, and on a quiet evening deer, foxes and badgers can be seen amongst the trees
